Kotie Ellis hails from the Eastern United States, having made Utah home about nine years ago. She pursued her Bachelor's of Arts in English Literature with a focus in Russian Literature from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia, and her Master's of Education in Montessori Education, with a thesis focused on multi-sensory reading curriculums, from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. After completing her Graduate Certificate in Teaching at WSU, she joined Greenwood Charter. Her teaching experience spans K to 12.
Kotie has been in education all her life. She taught dance for many years while also tutoring in Math and Reading. Then she switched gears, teaching in special needs, high school language arts, and secondary school testing arenas. When her first child was born, she remembered her love of Montessori's philosophies and pursued teaching in the elementary grade levels. It is clear from her present and past endeavors Kotie loves multi-sensory learning styles, guiding students at their pace and towards their goals, and learners of all ages and curiosity levels. Kotie believes her students are their greatest teachers and that all teach, whether through direct instruction or example.
When not teaching, she explores the world through books, movies, seminars, further collegiate study, outdoor expeditions and travel. Her two children keep her active as well. Together, they enjoy all kinds of animals, nature, and travel. Most of all they love learning and exploration. Within the past five years, her family has finally completed their goal of traveling to all continental United States, and she and her daughter traveled to Asia for a bit. She also loves drawing, sewing, swimming, nutrition, history, board games and puzzles.
Kotie truly believes curiosity sparks the joy of learning's adventure, and hopes to bring that day-in and day-out to her classroom. She is excited to be a part of the collaborative team of children and adults at Greenwood Charter.
The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.
