Students will look closely at pictures and do "close reads" with books. They will practice expressing what they notice and wonder and will often have partner or group discussions. Through this practice they will learn how to express their own point of view and build on others ideas.
We will build important reading and writing skills and at the end of the year students should be able to attempt to write and spell new words phonetically, read and write common words such as where and every, and write complete sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation.
My name is Jessica Scott. I found Greenwood when I was looking for a school to send my own two boys to and I am so glad that I did. I love that Greenwood doesn't only focus on teaching required standards and instead focuses on teaching well rounded individuals.
Students at Greenwood not only learn what is required of them by the State but also learn about healthy living, how to be a leader, environmental stewardship, and much more. I started out volunteering at the school while my children attended. I quickly realized that I really loved working in the school so I got my Paraprofessional Certificate and started working here as a Paraprofessional in 2nd and 3rd grade. I then moved on to work with the Early Grove Special Education Department helping young students who struggled with Reading and Math. I am excited to work at Greenwood this year as a 1st grade teacher. I am very excited to be working with your students and helping them to reach their potential.
You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights! You’ll join the high fliers who soar to high heights.”
