Students will look closely at pictures and do "close reads" with books. They will practice expressing what they notice and wonder and will often have partner or group discussions. Through this practice they will learn how to express their own point of view and build on others ideas.
We will build important reading and writing skills and at the end of the year students should be able to attempt to write and spell new words phonetically, read and write common words such as where and every, and write complete sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation.
I am Danica Kester (“Ms. Danica” to my kiddos).
I have the joy and privilege of being a First Grade Early Grove Teacher Tree at this amazingly wonderful charter school!
I view my role as teacher to be a stewardship with accountability. I believe that the classroom should be a safe place to learn and be ourselves. I try hard to make learning engaging and fun while encouraging children in self-esteem-promoting ways.
My husband and I have been married for 20 years and have 5 kids ranging from ages 9 to 19. As a family we enjoy the outdoors, traveling, and playing card and board games.
I grew up in an Air Force family and have lived in four states and visited 16 more. One of my unique experiences as a child was participating in the famous White House Easter Egg roll on the South Lawn of the White House when my dad worked at the Pentagon.
As a teen, I was a care giver to my Down Syndrome and Autistic brother, as a young married I served as Activities Counselor in a care center for the elderly, for many years I was music director and chorister for children’s groups, and for twelve years I worked as a volunteer at Venture Academy Charter School as a field Work Crew Leader in planning and conducting meaningful field work.
My education is from Weber High School, Brigham Young University-Idaho, and Western Governors University.
I look forward to serving you and your students.
Be somebody who makes everyone feel like somebody.
