Our Portrait of a Graduate identifies the ideal characteristics of a GreenWood graduate after completing our K-8 program.
These are aspirations not necessarily meant to be quantified and measured, but reflected upon frequently.
These characteristics begin at home and are cultivated in our educational setting.
Our Instructional Model is based on 3 main pillars. Students learn the value of the phrase "We Are Crew," that they are part of something bigger than themselves, and that success for one is not enough; we can get up the mountain together.
Graduates experience explicit teaching in how to be well in mind and body.
Graduates learn how to demonstrate respect for the world in which they find themselves.
Graduates learn a commitment to deeper learning rooted in Expeditionary Learning.
In EL Education schools, student learning is based on four academic mindsets:
I belong in this community.
My ability and competence grow with my effort.
I can succeed at this.
This work has value for me.
Graduates emerge with an understanding that what they have learned in school will serve them for the rest of their lives as happy, healthy, well-rounded individuals with a growth mindset. They move forward to high school understanding that with effort and an understanding of the purpose for their learning, they can achieve their goals.
