I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Family and Human Development from Utah State University a long time ago! After graduation, I worked with autistic kids in an early childhood education setting. It was hard work but so rewarding! I took a break from education to be a full time mom for 18 years. I have 5 kids, 4 boys and 1 girl and I love being a mom! During those 18 years, I worked hard to teach my own children and spent 15 years working with different charter schools. I am a founding member of two charter schools in Utah and spent 12 years as a board member at Venture Academy in Marriott Slaterville. I returned to teaching at Greenwood when my oldest boys (twins) were Juniors in High School. I am so thrilled to be a part of Greenwood. I taught a 5/6 split in elementary for a year followed by 2 years of middle school English at Greenwood before taking the Director’s position. I have a passion for teaching and for working with children. I love that I get to work with amazing students and staff everyday at Greenwood and I’m looking forward to building an amazing program and culture here!
I LOVE to learn. My natural inquisitiveness and curiosity led me to two undergraduate majors that emphasize learning more about the people and world we live in. I have earned a MEd in Curriculum Design & Instruction and Educational Leadership. This fall I will be embarking on a Phd program in Math Educational Leadership. But learning can take place anywhere and for the last 30 years, I have learned through the eyes of my 5 children, through the lens of a business owner, and behind the actual lens of my camera as I captured the beauty of people and places through my passion for photography. I believe in setting big goals and honoring the path that it takes to get there. One of my big goals was biking from Idaho to Arizona and in 2021 I completed a 316-mile bike tour from across Utah. I have spent the last decade and a half involved in EL Education, first as a parent, then as a school board leader, as a founding teacher at GreenWood, and as the Math & Science Specialist and Assistant Director. I have a firm belief that each student has unique gifts and abilities that will make our learning purposeful, meaningful, and fun! I believe in empowering students, teachers, and families with the confidence to take good risks that will allow them to do more than they thought possible. I am very grateful for the hard work and dedication of the GreenWood community who are mindful of the joy and journey of learning.
