KINDERGARTEN

In Kindergarten at Greenwood Charter School we focus on educating the whole child through centers, play, and hands on learning. For Math and Reading we follow the Utah Common Core State Standards. We use Illustrative Math, Utah State SEEd Stories, and the Reading Horizons Curriculum. We also use the EL curriculum in Kindergarten where we focus on Toys and Play, Weather, and Trees. We practice mindfulness, movement breaks, and social emotional building. Kindergarten is a great place to be!

Hi families! My name is Mayra Ruiz, and I am thrilled to be one of the Kindergarten teachers here at Greenwood. I’ve spent about 25 years in education across both General Education and Special Education for grades K–8, but my absolute favorite will always be my sweet littles! I love their boundless energy, curiosity, and pure eagerness to learn.

My own journey began in third grade, where my teacher, Ms. Sotelo, inspired me to teach. Today, I am living my dream of following in her footsteps. 



This culture transformed me, and I love sharing it with our students and families. Setting a strong foundation and a lifelong love of learning right here in Kindergarten makes my job a dream come true! The Air Force originally brought my family to Utah, and it has been a wonderful place to raise our three adventurous sons—two of whom are proud GW alumni. Greenwood is truly my second home and my second family. I cannot wait to meet your littles and start this incredible journey together!

I truly love GW because everyone who walks through our doors is seen, loved, respected, and inspired.
